Job Description
This position focuses on Windows Server, VMware, Dell server platforms, Active Directory, containerized infrastructure, identity services, infrastructure automation, and related datacenter technologies. The engineer will deliver new infrastructure, execute modernization projects, troubleshoot complex technical problems, and create standardized, resilient designs and automation that reduce operational overhead and make the environment easier to manage and support.
The successful candidate should be equally comfortable building a server, troubleshooting a complex infrastructure problem, writing PowerShell automation, developing a technical design, documenting the completed solution, and supporting the environment they help create.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, implement, and support server and virtualization solutions for remote branch and datacenter environments.
• Deploy and integrate Windows Server, VMware, Dell server hardware, Active Directory, DNS, identity, service accounts, storage, and supporting infrastructure services.
• Build, operate, and improve infrastructure supporting containerized workloads, including container hosts, container runtimes, image registries, and the underlying compute resources.
• Integrate container platforms with enterprise networking, DNS, load balancing, storage, certificates, identity, secrets, monitoring, logging, backup, and security services.
• Troubleshoot container infrastructure issues such as node health, resource constraints, image pulls, service connectivity, persistent storage, certificates, and platform availability; perform platform upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and lifecycle maintenance.
• Engineer infrastructure for new branches, application deployments, server replacements, migrations, acquisitions, and datacenter modernization initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues spanning virtualization, operating systems, identity, DNS, storage, networking, and application dependencies.
• Identify recurring infrastructure problems and engineer permanent solutions rather than repeatedly performing the same operational workaround.
• Develop PowerShell scripts and other automation to standardize builds, validate configurations, automate repetitive engineering tasks, and reduce manual effort.
• Design systems for minimal operational overhead by emphasizing standardization, resilience, automation, monitoring, and recoverability.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, configuration baselines, build procedures, diagrams, recovery procedures, and technical documentation.
• Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation as systems are purchased, installed, moved, configured, upgraded, patched, or otherwise changed.
• Use approved AI tools to assist with engineering research, scripting, troubleshooting, automation, and documentation while independently testing and validating outputs before production use.
• Partner with Network, Security, Database, Application, and other IT teams to ensure solutions function correctly end to end.
• Perform technical testing and validation before placing new or changed infrastructure into production.
• Document new solutions, automate routine operational tasks where practical, and establish repeatable support procedures that reduce ongoing manual effort.
• Own complex infrastructure issues through resolution and improve the underlying design when recurring issues reveal an engineering problem.
• Participate in infrastructure lifecycle planning, capacity planning, modernization, technical-debt reduction, and vendor evaluation.
• Travel to remote branches and datacenter locations as needed for deployments, troubleshooting, migrations, and infrastructure projects.
How We Work
IT operates as a flat, hands-on engineering organization. There are no narrow infrastructure silos and no separate operations team waiting to take over a system after it is built. Our engineers design, build, implement, automate, troubleshoot, document, operate, and support the environments they work on.
The expectation is to engineer for minimal operational overhead. Systems should be standardized, resilient, automated where practical, well documented, and designed so routine maintenance and support require as little manual intervention as possible.
This is a fast-paced environment where engineers wear many hats. You may be designing a new infrastructure solution one day, troubleshooting a production issue the next, supporting a container platform, writing PowerShell automation, working with a vendor, installing equipment in a datacenter, or helping another technology team solve a problem that crosses traditional boundaries.
We are looking for engineers who take ownership from design through ongoing operation, are comfortable working outside a narrowly defined specialty, and continuously look for ways to make the environment simpler, more reliable, and easier to support.
Required Qualifications
• 3-5 years of hands-on systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or infrastructure implementation experience.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory.
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi environments.
• Hands-on experience supporting containerized workloads, with practical knowledge of Docker/container runtimes and Kubernetes concepts such as nodes, pods, services, deployments, persistent storage, resource allocation, and cluster troubleshooting.
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Dell enterprise server hardware.
• Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, authentication, certificates, service accounts, and common enterprise infrastructure dependencies.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems across virtualization, operating systems, identity, networking, storage, and application dependencies.
• Practical PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to convert manual technical procedures into standardized, repeatable, documented processes.
• Experience implementing and supporting infrastructure in a distributed or multi-site enterprise environment.
• Ability to produce clear technical diagrams, implementation plans, build documentation, and recovery/support procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work across technical disciplines.
