Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA) – SQL Development Focus
Location: On-site – Houston, TX
Experience Level: Senior (Minimum 8 years)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire, In-Office
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) with strong SQL development skills to join our in-office team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience managing and optimizing relational databases, particularly MS SQL Server, and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Experience with ETL processes, performance tuning, and data replication is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Administer, maintain, and optimize MS SQL Server databases.
• Design and implement T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and functions.
• Monitor and improve database performance through indexing and query optimization.
• Manage and support ETL processes using SSIS and other tools.
• Implement and maintain SQL CDC, replication (SQL and Qlik), and backup strategies.
• Collaborate with developers and analysts to support data-driven applications.
• Ensure database security, integrity, and availability.
• Document database architecture, processes, and procedures.
• Provide after-hours support as needed for critical issues, maintenance, or deployments.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
• Expertise in MS SQL Server administration and development.
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
• Experience with ETL tools, especially SSIS.
• Familiarity with SQL CDC and replication technologies (SQL, Qlik).
• Good working knowledge of data warehousing concepts and practices.
• Good understanding of Availability Groups setup for High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
• Solid understanding of database security and disaster recovery practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred/Bonus Skills:
• Exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Elasticsearch, RavenDB).
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
• Knowledge of working with servers, especially IIS and RabbitMQ.
• Experience working with SQL Sentry for performance monitoring and diagnostics.
