Job Description
The AS400 Analyst will support, maintain, and enhance IBM iSeries (AS400) applications and systems that are critical to business operations. This role will focus on analyzing requirements, resolving issues, and developing system enhancements while ensuring stability, performance, and security.
In partnership with IT and business teams, the AS400 Analyst will also help streamline processes, improve application functionality, and provide expertise in legacy system integration.
System Configuration & Support
1. Serve as the first line of support for AS400 application issues, ensuring timely resolution and proper escalation as needed.
2. Maintain RPG and SQL PL programs within the AS400 environment.
3. Provide technical and functional assistance to business users, resolving system issues and supporting routine maintenance activities.
Issue Triage & Operational Excellence
1. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve AS400 system and application issues, maintaining ownership until resolution.
2. Identify recurring issues, inefficiencies, or risks and recommend corrective actions to improve system stability and user experience.
3. Coordinate with IT and business stakeholders to ensure proper prioritization and timely delivery of fixes or enhancements.
Testing & Documentation
1. Participate in testing and validation of program changes, system patches, or upgrades impacting AS400 applications.
2. Document technical solutions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and user guides to enable consistent support.
3. Contribute to regression testing efforts by sharing insights from ticket handling and system analysis.
Reporting & Data Quality
1. Develop and maintain queries and reports to support business operations and decision-making.
2. Ensure accuracy, security, and integrity of AS400 data across applications.
3. Provide insights to IT leadership on recurring system pain points, performance concerns, or opportunities for process improvement.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
1. Act as a liaison between end users, IT, and business units to ensure clear communication of system issues and requirements.
2. Partner with operations, finance, and other functional teams to design, test, and implement AS400 system enhancements.
3. Support integration and modernization initiatives involving AS400 applications.
1. Support the ongoing Service Delivery lifecycle, from intake through testing and deployment.
2. Participate in operational reviews and retrospectives to identify opportunities for system and process optimization.
3. Maintain up-to-date documentation of business processes, configuration logs, and user-facing materials.
4. Provide backup support for additional PIT activities as needed during peak periods or project timelines.
Qualifications
Required:
1. Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
2. 3+ years of hands-on experience with AS400/iSeries systems.
3. Proficiency in SQL programming.
4. Strong understanding of AS400 system operations, troubleshooting, and support.
5. Ability to analyze, design, and implement system modifications to meet business needs.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR FORMAL TRAINING, YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND/OR SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE Qualifications
Required:
1. Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
2. 3+ years of hands-on experience with AS400/iSeries systems.
3. Proficiency in SQL programming.
4. Strong understanding of AS400 system operations, troubleshooting, and support.
5. Ability to analyze, design, and implement system modifications to meet business needs.
Preferred:
1. Experience with AS400 system administration (security, performance tuning, backups).
2. Knowledge of ERP or business-critical applications running on AS400.
3. Familiarity with integration tools, APIs, or modernization approaches for legacy systems.
4. Exposure to ITIL-based service management practices.
